StoryVokto: A friend, mentor and changemaker

How can you make a world of difference as a student? Ask Vokto Sarker, who has been a passionate volunteer with the informal care program in the village of Korjona for seven years.

What began with various training sessions has since grown into a heartwarming friendship and mentorship for two boys in his village: Hasan (who has a physical disability) and Monir (who has an intellectual disability).

Every Friday is all about meaningful connection. Vokto visits the boys and helps them wherever needed. For example, he helps Monir with his elementary school homework and encourages him to keep learning. He also takes them to a veranda school for therapy and developmental activities. But what Vokto considers most important is that every child should be able to enjoy life. That’s why he regularly takes the boys to village celebrations, local festivals and other events, so they can participate fully in society. Thanks to these special outings and Vokto’s unconditional support, the boys are visibly thriving, and their self-confidence grows week by week.

Vokto’s dedication extends far beyond this individual support. He also actively helps organize sporting events and consultations with local government officials, thereby helping to open doors that would otherwise remain closed.
