Job: treasurerVacancy: Treasurer
For 26 years, we have been making a difference. Will you help keep our finances on track?
Niketan Foundation is a dedicated organisation providing high-quality care and education to children and young people with complex disabilities in Bangladesh. We envision a world in which children and young people with complex disabilities are accepted, included, and able to attend school.
We are not newcomers: since 1998, we have been reaching around 500 children each year. We work closely with our long-standing Bangladeshi partner organisation, DRRA, and hold both ANBI status and the CBF quality mark for charitable organisations.
As a small and committed volunteer-led organisation, we are looking for a new Treasurer to join our board for a three-year term.
What We Do
Niketan works along two complementary tracks:
Track 1 – Care and Education : We provide children and young people with complex disabilities with a comprehensive package of support, including early intervention, special education, physiotherapy, vocational training, and community-based care.
Track 2 – Knowledge Sharing : Drawing on more than 25 years of experience, we actively share our expertise with others. We collaborate with the Bangladeshi government and NGOs, contribute to conferences and policy discussions, and co-develop international initiatives such as Stories for Inclusion (with Stichting Biblionef) and the We Care project on sexual health for young people with disabilities.
The Role
As Treasurer, you will be responsible for the foundation’s financial administration and stewardship of its financial resources. You will provide insight into the organisation’s financial position and advise the board on financial matters and policy.
Working closely with fellow board members and volunteers, you will help ensure that Niketan can continue to achieve its mission.
Your responsibilities include:
- Maintaining the financial administration using E-Boekhouden;
- Preparing the annual accounts and financial statements;
- Monitoring budgets and financial performance;
- Managing bank accounts, donations, and expenditures;
- Preparing financial reports and presenting them during board meetings;
- Acting as the primary contact for the accountant and other financial stakeholders.
The role requires an average commitment of approximately four hours per week. Workload is somewhat higher in spring during the annual reporting cycle and lighter during the summer months. You will participate in approximately eight online board meetings per year.
What Makes This Role Special?
- You will contribute to an organisation with a proven track record spanning more than 25 years.
- The position has an international dimension: payments to our partners in Bangladesh are made in Bangladeshi Taka (BDT).
- We operate in accordance with CBF guidelines and Dutch fundraising accounting standard RJ 650, offering valuable insight into the financial reporting requirements of a professional charitable organisation.
- A comprehensive handover package is available, and two former Treasurers remain available for advice and support. You will not be starting from scratch.
- You will be part of a small, engaged board where your ideas, initiative, and strategic input are genuinely valued.
Who We Are Looking For
You have an affinity for numbers and experience in financial administration, bookkeeping, accounting, or a similar role. You are accurate, reliable, and discreet, with strong communication skills.
Most importantly, you are motivated by Niketan’s mission.
Whether you are a student, working professional, or retiree, we welcome your application.
What We Offer
- An inspiring and meaningful volunteer position within a dedicated team;
- The opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of Niketan Foundation;
- Room for initiative, creativity, and personal input;
- Valuable experience in financial management within the non-profit sector.
