Story Maisha
Maisha (9) is a cheerful and determined girl with Down syndrome. She was born prematurely, but according to the doctors she was completely healthy. However, after a few months, her parents noticed that her development was different from that of other children.
Over the years, Maisha learned to sit, stand and walk, albeit with some delay. However, her speech and cognitive development lagged behind. She didn’t play much with other children and often preferred to keep to herself. Concerned about her well-being and development, her parents enrolled her in special education on February 14, 2023. It was only then that they learned that Maisha has Down syndrome.
Starting school was tough. Maisha found it difficult to focus and saw the classroom as a big playground. She climbed on tables and cupboards, fidgeted constantly in her chair, and could become frustrated when things didn’t go her way.
However, with endless patience, clear structure and a loving, encouraging environment, she has made wonderful progress. She has learned to follow instructions, has participated in group activities, and can now focus on an activity for short periods of time. In the process, a special talent emerged: Maisha makes beautiful drawings and can now write her own name.
Her growth and development are so impressive that she now not only attends special education, but also joins the second-grade pupils at the local elementary school three days a week. A wonderful milestone that everyone is very proud of!
