NewsBicycles for heroes: how volunteers make a difference

Volunteers are the indispensable driving force behind our care program. For decades, 120 dedicated individuals have been working without pay to help children with disabilities at home with exercises, progress and advice for parents. This ensures that children in remote areas also receive the support they deserve.

This year has been designated the International Year of Volunteers – the perfect time to put these unsung heroes in the spotlight!

Volunteering in rural Bangladesh comes with certain challenges. Volunteers often travel long distances through hard-to-reach areas, which without reliable transportation takes an enormous amount of time. To change this, 26 of our most dedicated volunteers have been given bicycles.

That makes a world of difference! They lose less time traveling, can make more home visits and reach more children. As a result, the support they provide is more consistent, which directly contributes to greater inclusion and better development opportunities for our children.
