News First Aid training
Niketan organized a two-day training course on first aid for children
Occasionally something happens at our school that causes both support workers and parents to panic. For example, a fall or an epileptic seizure. People cry, shout and respond in traditional ways and with cultural rituals, without thinking about the consequences. Many of our children have epilepsy, but both parents and support workers are insufficiently equipped to respond adequately.
So, it was high time that we organized a two-day training course on first aid for children in collaboration with the Swedish organization First Aid Centre.
During the training, our staff learned to assess a situation before taking action. They learned how to perform CPR on a child and what to do in case of choking or drowning. They also learned how to bandage wounds and what to do in case of poisoning. A lot of attention was also paid to epilepsy, why and how to place a child in the recovery position and how best to protect their head.
Our staff now know that water is not a cure-all and that in some cases it can even be dangerous. Because of the enthusiasm of our staff, we would like to repeat the training regularly and perhaps also offer it to our volunteers.
